House Committee on Appropriations chairperson and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co on Sunday stressed the importance of providing accessible and quality healthcare services to the people of Bicol.

“The healthcare system in Bicol needs improvement, and building a new hospital in Legazpi is a step towards achieving that goal,” said Co stressing that the proposed hospital will not only help the people of Albay but also the residents of the neighboring provinces.

Co has been advocating for the construction of a new 20-storey hospital in Legaspi, Albay that will be equipped with modern facilities and highly qualified medical professionals.

“Access to healthcare is a basic right that should be enjoyed by every Filipino, regardless of their location or social status,” Co added.

Last March 24, Co led the medical and dental mission dubbed “Tarabangan Caravan” in Manito, Albay.

Hundreds of residents availed of the free services, which include free medical consultations, dental check-ups, minor surgeries, and free laboratory tests.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to help the people of Manito, Albay, through the Tarabangan Caravan. It is heartwarming to see the smiles on the faces of the residents who received medical and dental care today. We hope that this mission will not only alleviate their health problems but also show them that their government cares for their welfare,” Co said.

The Tarabangan Caravan is one of Ako Bicol party-list’s initiatives to bring healthcare services closer to those residing in far-flung areas of the Bicol Region.
