Albay wants Mayon to be included in World Heritage list by 2025

The Albay Provincial Government is seeking make Albay Mayon Volcano Natural Park as one of the World Heritage Sites by the year 2025.

Through the Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office (PTCAO), Albay Governor Edcel Grex Lagman wants to make this goal a reality.

Mayon Volcano has been on the tentative list of the heritage sites since 2015, which will be considered for future nomination and inclusion to the World Heritage List.

“However, the process and responsibilities to achieve such remarkable title, requires a lot of patience and hard work from all agencies, cities, and municipalities, as well as from the province where Mt. Mayon is situated,” the Albay Capitol said.

A Heritage Law and Cultural Mapping Workshop of PTCAO in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Philippine Registry of Cultural Property Office – Cultural Properties Protection and Regulation Division was recently held.

During the activity, a refresher on World Heritage program and process were discussed by UNESCO National Commission Secretary – General, Dr. Ivan Anthony Henares, along with Ms. Len Barrientos and Sir Rajee Flonirrdo, Project Officers of UNACOM.

“The said 3-day workshop was participated by the municipal tourism officers, cultural mappers, and municipal planning and development officers in Albay,” said the Capitol.
