Albay Governor Edcel “Grex” Lagman that the strong women who surrounded him influenced to him to become a leader and a better man.

In his message during the Albay Women Leaders’ Summit, Lagman highlighted the role of the women in nation building.

“For everyone’s information, I have always been surrounded by many strong women —- and I’m the better for it. From my mother, my siblings, my spouse – their presence and influence has made me a better man,” the governor shared.

“They have all contributed to the person I am today. This is why whenever I celebrate with you International Women’s Day or National Women’s Month, IT IS NEVER TO FLATTER WOMEN NOR TO PATRONIZE THEM BY GRATUITOUSLY APPROPRIATING CHOREOGRAPHED MOMENTS FOR THEM TO SHINE,” he added.

Lagman noted that celebrating women’s month is best done by making sure they are ”seen and heard.”

“This is the very acknowledgement that they ARE crucial to nation-building, INDISPENSABLE to community development and organizational progress and, most importantly, ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR ROLE AS THE PARTNER THAT TRULY STRENGTHENS the foundation of the family as society’s basic unit,” he said.

“Women NEED TO BE WHERE DECISIONS ARE MADE. Women ARE NEEDED AT THE TABLE OF POWER. We need women, not to add to the “diversity points” but to ROUND OUT THE PERSPECTIVES of what DEVELOPMENT, PROGRESS and SUCCESS mean to each and every Filipino. KAYA TOTOONG TAMA ANG TEMA NATIN NA: “BABAE KA, KAILANGAN KA!”

Lagman said that under his watch, the Provincial Government is committed to stand with women and to create a supportive environment that promotes equal access and opportunities for them to enter and advance in leadership roles.
