Puerto Princesa Council honors late local composer and musicologist

The Puerto Princesa Council has posthumously honored a local composer and musicologist who has enriched the country’s culture.
The council approved a resolution honoring the late Bayani “Nonoy” Manuel Lanzanas, a singer, songwriter, composer, musicologist, Palawanologist, community organizer, and the founder of the legendary cultural group Sining ng mga Katutubo or the SINIKA.
It was also Lanzanas who conceptualized the Pista Y’Ang Cagueban, a renowned annual tree planting festival and an environmental activity in the city.
The resolution commending him was presented to his family.
The city council said Lanzanas established a unique and indelible legacy in Philippine music.
He was, among others, a finalist in the 1999 MetroPop Song Festival, the Asian Tourism Forum in Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, the 1st Ethnic Jazz Festival in Pasay City, and the 7th Drum Festival Celebration, Trade Center in Melaka, Malaysia.
His contribution to the culture, arts and civic society of this Puerto Princesa and Palawan are invaluable!
“The 17th Sangguniang Panlungsod conferred to the Lanzanas family the resolution of posthumous recognition to the late Bayani “Nonoy” Manuel Lanzanas.
Bayani Manuel Lanzanas, fondly called “Nonoy” by his peers and family, was a singer, songwriter, composer, musicologist, Palawanologist, community organizer, and the founder of the legendary cultural group Sining ng mga Katutubo or the SINIKA.
The Pista Y’Ang Cagueban, a renowned annual tree planting festival and an environmental activity in our City was the brainchild of Nonoy for which he composed a theme song back in 1992.
Nonoy established a unique and indelible legacy in Philippine music, a deed hard to follow and match, with accolades including being a Finalist in the 1999 MetroPop Song Festival, the Asian Tourism Forum in Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, the 1st Ethnic Jazz Festival in Pasay City, and the 7th Drum Festival Celebration, Trade Center in Melaka, Malaysia, among others.
The August Body expresses its gratitude and appreciation, through this posthumous commendation and recognition, to Mr. Bayani Manuel Lanzanas for his invaluable contribution to the culture, arts and civic society of this City and the Province of Palawan,” the city council posted.
