Panaligan marks 25 years since Calapan became a city

Oriental Mindoro Rep. Arnan Panaligan shared that the law converting Calapan into a city has been signed by then president Fidel V. Ramos 25 years ago.

“Silver Anniversary, 25 years ago, February 2, 1998, Republic Act No. 8475 that created the City of Calapan was signed into law by President Fidel V. Ramos in Malacañang Palace,” said the lawmaker.

Panaligan was a municipal mayor at the time the law was signed.

The law was authored by then Rep. Renato V. Leviste, first district representative.

On March 21, 1998 a plebiscite was held and the people of Calapeños ratified the cityhood of Calapan.

Since then, Panaligan became Oriental Mindoro Governor, then mayor again of Calapan from 2013 to 2022.

Panaligan is now serving his first term as congressman.
