Albay Vice Gov. Grex Lagman pushes for use of Olympic-sized pool for the province’s swimmers
Albay Vice Gov. Grex Lagman found that the members of the province’s swim teams have been practicing in a 19-meter pool even though they have to compete in Olympic-length pools that are 50 meters long.
In a Facebook post, Lagman said he has had to swim additional laps to make sure he is able to complete one kilometer.
But the province’s swimmers should not have to make these computations, he said. Practicing in a short pool is also not good or their muscle memory and swimming techniques, he added.
He said he would convince his father, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, to find the budget to fully operationalize and maintain the Olympic-length swimming pool at the Tabaco National High School.
The pool has been there since 1992, but needs repairs.
Some members of the swim team are set to join a national competition next month.
Let’s hope they could practice properly soon!
