Albay ‘prepared’ for possible collapse of Mayon lava dome – official

As Mayon continues its heightened activity, the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) said that the province is prepared for the possible collapse of the volcano’s lava dome.

Dr. Cedric Daep, APSEMO Chief, reported that they have conducted emergency meetings following the directives of Albay Governor Noel E. Rosal to secure residents living in the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and to impose a ban on all activities around the area.

The assurance came after Alert Level 2 was raised over Phivolcs.

As part of the strategic approach of Albay over the threat of Mayon Volcano, the Albay PIO said that the province is focusing more on conducting warnings and evacuation.

As the province targets a zero-casualty status, APSEMO asked for collaborative efforts from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other authorities to designate at least a 2,000-strong manpower to secure the PDZ.
