VG Lagman hails tennis star Alex Eala
Albay Vice Governor Edcel Grex Lagman has lauded Alex Eala for winning the US Open girls singles.
Lagman said that teen tennis star Eala made history as first Filipino to win the tournament.
“Before Eala’s historic US Open title win, the farthest that a player from the Philippines had gone in the junior grand slam singles was the semifinals which happened in the 1984 Wimbledon boys singles with Felix Barrientos and the 2020 French Open girls singles when Eala herself made the final four,” said Lagman.
“Many junior grand slam champions went on to become major champions and a few actually became world No. 1,” he said.
The Albay vice governor also asked Filipinos to rally behind Eala.
“So we should support Alex because she definitely has the potential to make many Filipinos very proud and happy. Unlike basketball… ooops! Lol,” he said.
