House Committee on Appropriations chairperson and Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co on Friday called on his colleagues to act and work together to scrutinize the budget and guarantee that “every peso authorized in this budget is directed to address food security and inflation, reduce poverty, and provide the necessary stimulus for economic transformation.”

Co made the statement during the first day of deliberation on the P5.268 trillion budget for 2023, the first budget crafted by the Marcos administration.

“Let’s work hard and work together to accomplish this task assigned to us by the Filipino people to ascertain their future prosperity and advancement,” Co said.

Co said that when the House of Representatives received the 2023 National Expenditure Program (NEP) last Monday the instruction of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez was “for the Committee to act with dispatch without sacrificing its independence to pass this budget before the Christmas break.”

The committee intends to finish its deliberation on September 16 and have the General Appropriations Bill (GAB) approved on the second and third reading before the adjournment on September 30.
