Rosal urges agri-based coops to support local farmers
Albay Governor Noel Rosal encouraged agriculture-based organizations and cooperatives to focus on providing agricultural machines, seedlings, and fertilizers to local farmers.
Rosal on Wednesday initiated a stakeholder’s consultation meeting at the Farmers Auditorium in Camalig, Albay.
During the event, Albay Provincial Agriculture Office Officer-In-Charge Rosalinda B. Belodo urged the members of the Bantonan Community Development Cooperative, Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority Region V, Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Department of Agrarian Reform, and other organizations and cooperatives to present and relay their concerns to the governor.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Albay Pili and Cacao Association suggested banning the cutting of pili trees in Albay to ensure the sustainability of raw ingredients for the production of pili candies and pursue the possibility of exporting pili and pili by-products.
After the consultation, Dr. Marisa Estrella of Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry met with the Governor to relay the information with regards to the improvement and further development of abaca and pili plantations in Albay.
