DOH Bicol holds groundbreaking ceremony of new laboratory


The Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD) held the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bicol South Luzon – Sub National Reference Laboratory (BSL-SNRL).

It also inaugurated the enhanced facilities of the Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Center (BRGHGMC) on August 10.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the BSL-SNRL was held at San Pedro, Cabusao, Camarines Sur to expand its location and healthcare capacity.

The new laboratory will serve as an infectious and public health laboratory with complete testing and surveillance services.

Regional Director Dr. Ernie V. Vera and Assistant Regional Director Dr. Ferchito L. Avelino, with Assistant Secretary Nestor F. Santiago and BRGHGMC Medical Center Chief Edgardo R. Sarmiento led the groundbreaking ceremony.

RD Vera explained the process in establishing and expanding the BSL-SNRL with the support of BRGHGMC.

“Nakipag-coordinate po kami with Dr. Sarmiento (of BRGHGMC) on the provision of land for the BSL-SNRL. Isa ito sa mga requirements na magkaroon ng identified land kung saan itatayo ang laboratory.”

RD Vera, ARD Avelino, Asec. Santiago, and Dr. Sarmiento also led the inauguration of BRGHGMC facilities, which include the telemedicine unit with equipped ancillary service, enhanced negative pressure room to manage both COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, enhanced blood station, library, and department offices.
