Rosal bats for universal healthcare in Albay
Albay Gov. Noel Rosal is pushing for the provincewide health protection under the Universal Health Care (UHC) program.
The governor wants to start with municipal health centers and district hospitals providing free and accessible health care services to Albayanos through the use of PhilHealth.
In a meeting with the chiefs of hospital held Monday, Rosal reiterated his desire to ensure that all Albayano patients will be free from financial risk and that no out-of-pocket expenses for families availing of health services.
The Governor said he wanted all Albayanos to get proper attention, especially those in the barrios and those coming from far-flung areas.
“So that they would no longer need to go to the BRTTH, and the BRTTH is iusually fully occupied. We will ensure that our municipal health centers will get accredited, and hopefully we could give equipment that can be used by our health care workers for the Albayanos,” he said.
According to Department of Health-Bicol Regional Director Dr. Ernie Vera, universal health care must be implemented here in Albay since of the six provinces in Bicol, only three are covered by the UHC, namely, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Masbate.
Accordingly, Rosal asked for legislative support from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay to materialize this initiative in order to equip hospitals and health centers with good facilities.
