The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has recognized Palawan Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez for making the El Nido Sewage and Solid Waste Treatment Plant a reality.
The Plaque of Recognition was handed to Alvarez by DENR OIC Secretary Jim O. Sampulna.
“Wala pang ganito sa lahat nang napuntahan kong probinsiya sa Pilipinas. Congratulations to Palaweños for having first waste and water treatment facilities in the whole Philippines,” said Sampulna.
“I have been to Indonesia, Malaysia even to other countries like Australia, New Zealand, napuntahan ko po ‘yan walang ganito even South Korea and the last country that I have visited was Japan, wala po silang ganito”, added Sampulna.
Undersecretary for Field Operations – Luzon, Visayas and Environment Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna, Assistant Secretary for Administration and Human Resources Hiro V. Masuda, DENR MIMAROPA RED Lormelyn E. Claudio, MIMAROPA Regional Director for Environment Joe Amil Salino and DENR Environmental Management Bureau Director William P. Cuñado also graced the event.
The activity was held at El Nido Sewage and Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Sitio Batbat, Barangay Villla Libertad, El Nido.
Meanwhile, Alvarez thanked the DENR for recognizing the project.
“It’s a big honor sa munisipyo at probinsiya na naandito kayong lahat para bigyan ng recognition ang nagawa namin. Sa Palawan, gusto naming manatiling best and friendliest island in the whole world. Cited po sa maraming citation ang bayan ng El Nido kaya napagkaisahan namin na unahin. Ito po ay cooperation ng isang maliit na LGU ng El Nido at probinsiya upang hindi tayo bumaba doon sa best and friendliest island,” said the governor.
