DPWH undertakes 1,326 infra projects in Bicol


A total of 1,326 infrastructure projects were undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bicol Region in 2021.

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado and Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut lauded Regional Office 5 headed by Director Virgilio C. Eduarte, for facilitating the construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and widening of 216 roads with a total length of 188.2 kilometers, 45 permanent bridges, and 129 flood mitigation structures with an overall length of 69.26 kilometers.

“These projects will provide the necessary facilities and ensure the safety and convenience of Bicolanos amid the ongoing battle against COVID-19”, said Mercado.

Also accomplished under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) are 877 local programs which include five (5) National Building Program projects, two (2) school buildings, 340 local and national roads, 9 local bridges, 95 flood control and drainage structures, 393 multi-purpose buildings and structures, and 33 water management facilities.

In partnership with other government agencies, a total of 169 projects were also completed which consist of farm-to-market roads, access roads to airports, seaports, tourism destinations, and economic zones, school buildings and facilities, and various infrastructure all in support of national security.

“Despite restrictions due to the pandemic, we will continue to do all we can to deliver more significant projects for the country’s economic growth and recovery”, added Mercado.
