Sato hails final reading approval of bill banning mining in OkSi


Occidental Mindoro Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato hailed the third reading approval of her bill seeking to make Mindoro as a “no-mining zone.”

The House of Representatives passed House Bill 10611 or theb “Mindoro Island Mining Free Zone Act,” which was authored by Sato,

“Gagawin na nitong permanente ang pagbabawal sa mina na sinimulan ni Cong. Nene sa pagdeklara ng 25-year moratorium on mining noong 2009,” the lawmaker said.

Sato also thanked her colleagues for supporting her measure.

“The people of Occidental Mindoro have time and again said no to mining. We, the leaders of OkSi heeded their call towards a greener and more sustainable future of our island province,” she said.

“We thank the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco for supporting us. We fervently hope for the support of our colleagues at the Senate,” she added.
