Graduates are the measure of the 4Ps’ success, says San Fernando, Cam Sur Mayor Fermin Mabulo
The success of the government’s cash assistance program for the poor should be measured by how many graduates it has, according to San Fernando Mayor Fermin Mabulo.
In a Facebook post, Mabulo recalled that when he was elected mayor, he asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development for their assessment of the program.
He was told that it was so successful that it was being expanded to accommodate more people.
But he said it’s not the number of beneficiaries that should be the measure of its success.
To know if the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is effective, people should look at the number of families who graduated from it, meaning they are no longer among the poorest of the poor.
The mayor said he was proud to report that in San Fernando, 67 beneficiaries are graduating from the program.
They have improved their lot in life, so they no longer have to depend on the government.
The more graduates, the more successful the program is!
“4Ps or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program started in 2011 as a poverty alleviation program of the National Government. When i got elected as Mayor in 2016 i asked the people from DSWD who are running the 4Ps program in San Fernando on their assessment of the program. They told me that 4Ps program is so successful that they are expanding it and more people are now enrolled in the program. I told them that this should not be the measure of its success and their mindset is wrong. The measure of success should be quantified by the number of families who graduated from 4Ps. Meaning, ilang pamilya na ba ang naka tawid mula sa kahirapan tungo sa pag unlad? Today, i am proud to say that 67 4Ps beneficiaries are graduating from the program. Hindi na po sila kailangang umasa sa dole out ng gobyerno. Congratulations
po sainyo. Saludo po kami sainyo at sa inyong pamilya. When all our 4Ps beneficiaries have graduated, thats when we can say that we are successful. Tulong tulong, itawid natin ang lahat,” Mabulo posted.
