Escudero on senate run: We need to uplift PH from pandemic effects
Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero said that he wants to help in uplifting the country from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that’s why is gunning for a Senate seat next year.
“I’ve only been in the provincial capitol for less than 3 years. For one simple reason, whatever it is I do great for my province it will never be enough to help uplift our entire province without the country being uplifted as well,” he said in a TV interview with CNN Philippines.
“Sa laki ng problem na idinulot ng pandemiya sa ating bansa, kailangang ng tulong bawat isa at nais kong ialok ang tulong na iyon,” he added.
Escudero also said that in addressing the pandemic, “wider latitude” should be given to local government units to respond to the health crisis.
“If we are talking about locally generated revenues of LGUs, they should be given a wider latitude to decide what to do with that money because they know what their constituents need,” said Escudero.
“I’ve seen many best practices in LGUs that will outweigh compared to what the national government is imposing,” he added.
Escudero served out his Senate terms in 2019 and decided to run for a local post as governor in Sorsogon.
After a little less than three years, he seeks a Senate comeback.
One of the solutions to this pandemic is to allow LGUs to decide what needs to be done to address this now.
