Suspended Brooke’s Point Mayor Maryjean Feliciano calls on lawmakers to prohibit extractive industries in watersheds
Brooke’s Point Mayor Maryjean Feliciano may be suspended for closing a mining operation, but she continues to seek ways to prevent the destruction of the environment.
In a Facebook post, Feliciano called on lawmakers to pass a provincial or municipal ordinance that prohibits the cutting of trees and extractive industries within a watershed.
If no such ordinance is in place, this is the right time to approve one, Feliciano said.
She tagged lawmakers in her post, hoping to spur them to action.
She may not be in office, but she could still do something for her crusade!
“If there is no existing provincial or municipal ordinance yet that prohibits the cutting of trees and extractive industries within a watershed, i believe this is the right time to pass this kind of legislation.
