Panaligan seeks congressional seat in Oriental Mindoro
Calapan City Mayor Arnan Panaligan is running for congressman representing the first district of Oriental Mindoro.
“First to file a certificate of candidacy for Representative of the First District of Oriental Mindoro at the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor of the Commission on Elections, at 8:00 in the morning of the first day of October, 2021; the first to file also for any position in the province,” said Panaligan.
“After being elected to three consecutive terms as City Mayor, I have decided to seek a seat in Congress. This decision was arrived at after consultation with supporters and after undergoing a process of discernment,” he added.
Panaligan admitted that being in Congress is different as he has been with the executive department ever since he started his career in public service.
“Legislative work in Congress will be an entirely new arena of public service for me. I have been a local government chief executive in my entire political career as City Mayor and Governor,” he said.
“But I believe that my lengthy experience in local governance and my inclination for policy making provides a solid foundation to be an effective legislator,” he added.
Panaligan filed his certificate of candidacy for Representative under the banner of MBS Party with outgoing Representative Doy Leachon as gubernatorial candidate.
