World class! Albay VG Lagman hails Pinoy athletes in Toyko Olympics
Albay Vice Governor Edcel Grex Lagman said that he is extremely proud of the performance of the Filipino athletes in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“As an Asian, as a Southeast Asian, as a Filipino… I can’t be prouder for our Pinoy athletes,” he said.
“We topped the medal standings in the last 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Now, we emerged as the best performing Southeast Asian country in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” he added.
The Philippines brought home the first ever gold medal courtesy of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
The country also scored two silver in boxing through Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam.
Eumir Marcial also took home a bronze medal in boxing.
“We can all say that this performance is not a fluke! We will build on this for sure.” said Lagman.
“Thank you MVP, Ramon S. Ang, Deputy Speaker Mikee L. Romero and all corporate sponsors who helped PSA, POC and all other government agencies in this concerted effort,” he added.
