Masbate Board Member Jason Arevalo likens persecution of activists to Christ’s suffering
Masbate Board Member Jason Arevalo was reminded of the sufferings of Jesus Christ by the crakdown on legitimate dissent and peaceful activism.
In a Facebook post, Arevalo said the Black Friday embodied the death of a “subversive” pacifist in the hands of Roman soldiers.
Jesus was treated like a dissident, which is not unlike the fate of those who dare to speak up against the current administration and call for reform, he noted.
He said that when he sees innocent lawyers, activists, judges, farmers, union leaders, members of minority groups, student leaders being wrongly accused, jailed or killed, he knows the same also happened to Jesus Christ.
May we have deliverance from this situation!
“The crackdown on legitimate dissent and peaceful activism is no different from the experience of the central figure this Lent.
By any stretch, Black Friday was the death of a pacifist “subversive” in the hands of Roman soldiers. Jesus, like those reformist and activists who fell in the cold of night, was treated, from the hegemonic perspective then, a dissident. No different almost from those who peacefully call for reforms and seek redress through lawful means except that He is the Son of the Most High.
When we see innocent lawyers, activists, judges, farmers, union leaders, members of minority groups, student leaders wrongly accused, jailed or killed, we know this already happened long ago to the Man they called the Christ…
‘Whatever they do to the least of their brethrens, they do unto Him…’” Arevalo posted.
