After losing House post, CamSur Rep. Villafuerte accuses Velasco camp of being obsessed with playing politics

Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte said that the camp of Speaker Lord Alan Velasco is obsessed in “playing politics” after he was stripped of his vice-chairmanship in a House committee.

Villafuerte, who earlier served as Deputy Speaker under the leadership of former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, was removed as vice chair of the Committee on Public Accounts last night.

“We welcome their continued purge of the allies of Speaker Alan Cayetano because we are more inspired and motivated to point out their flaws,” the CamSur lawmaker said in a statement.

“Their vindictiveness only proves the Velasco camp’s obsession with playing politics. Why continue purging strong Allies of this administration and push for Cha-Cha when they can focus instead on the vaccination program and rebuilding the economy?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Villafuerte also said that the Velasco-led chamber can strip them of positions, reduce the budgets in their districts, withhold the bonuses and salaries of their employees “but one thing for sure is that we will not be intimidated by their continued harassment and we will to continue to highlight that under Velasco, the Congress has become the House of Politics and a ‘trapo central’ rather than the House of the People.”

“Velasco and his henchmen think that by stripping our Committee positions and memberships they can silence us. It would have been better if they challenged us to a healthy intellectual debate on various issues, starting on why we don’t need Cha-Cha at this time,” he said.
