OkSi Rep. Sato tells AFP: Uphold PH’s sovereignty in West Philippine Sea


Occidental Mindoro Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato told the Armed Forces of the Philippines to uphold the country’s interest in the West Philippine Sea at all times.

Sato said the remarks during the confirmation hearing of the appointment of AFP chief of staff recently, where she sits as a member of the powerful Commission on Appointments.

“The AFP should, at all times, uphold the interest and sovereignty of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea,” Sato said.

Sato also told the military to protect the country’s territory particularly those with \in out Exclusive Economic Zone.

“Ayun din kay Cong. Nene, dapat huwag isantabi ang panalo ng Pilipinas sa 2016 UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Permanent Court of Arbitration.” said Sato’s office.

“Iginiit din ni Cong. Nene na kailangang bigyan ng mataas na prioridad ng AFP ang pagbabantay at patrolya sa Mindoro Strait, na isang strategic navigation channel sa ASEAN at tradisyunal din na pangisdaan ng mga mangingisda ng OkSi,” it added.

Gen. Gapay meanwhile agreed to the points raised by the Occidental Mindoro representative.

“Kaya naman kasama si Cong. Nene, ang buong CA ay bumoto para sa confirmation ni Gen. Gapay bilang bagong AFP Chief of Staff, ganun din sa 29 pang opisyal ng AFP,” said the solon’s office.
