CamSur Rep. Villafuerte wants frequencies vacated by ABS-CBN be used for distance learning
Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund “Lray” Villafuerte proposed to use the frequencies vacated by ABS-CBN for distance learning to help the Department of Education in its “blended learning” strategy.
Villafuerte filed House Resolution 1044 recommending the use of the frequencies previously assigned to the ABS-CBN for “effective distance learning, instruction, training and other useful purposes to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on education in the Philippines.”
Villafuerte noted in his resolution that “exhausting all possible delivery modes such as the use of untapped television and radio frequencies as those vacated by ABS-CBN is important in keeping students engaged.”
The CamSur solon also said in the resolution that the frequencies could also be used for information on COVID-19 prevention and control, risk-reduction and preparedness.
The House deputy speaker voted to deny the franchise application of ABS-CBN network last week. 70 lawmakers voted to deny the application, 11 against it with abstention.
The ABS-CBN has been off the air since May 5.
