Masbate BM Arevalo to new lawyers: Resist injustice, uphold the rule of law
Masbate Senior Provincial Board Member Jason Arevalo told the newly minted lawyers of the country to resist injustice and uphold the rule of law.
Successful bar examinees took their oath virtually last Thursday, the first of its kind in history. This, as the country is in the middle of fight against coronavirus.
“Congratulations, new lawyers! Beyond your title is your humanity. Never use it as a weapon to oppress, to defraud, to cheat, to lie, to murder hopes and aspirations,” said Arevalo, who is a product of UP Law.
“Your title finds new significance and relevance in this different time. Make a difference. For respect of the law to thrive again. For the common good. Uphold the law like it has never been defended before. Seek justice at all times even in the face of a seemingly weaponized legal system. Resist injustice, however tempting, difficult, gratifying,” he added.
According to the local politiko, the country and its people need lawyers more than ever.
Quoting his former professor in UP Law and now Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, Arevalo shared: “Walang magpapalaya sa atin kung hindi tayo mismo. Humayo nang buong giting at tapang. Paglingkuran ang sambayanan!”
