Palawan Capitol pushes farm tourism

The Palawan Capitol said that farm tourism is seen to boost the agriculture and tourism sectors.

“Inaasahang makapagbibigay ng maraming oportunidad sa sektor ng turismo gayundin sa industriya ng agrikultura ang pagsusulong ng farm tourism sa lalawigan ng Palawan na itinuturing na isang agricultural province,” the Capitol said.

In line with this, Provincial Tourism Officer Maribel C. Buñi urged owners of farm tourism sites in the province to register with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) to be officially recognized by the Tourism department.

“Ngayon we are encouraging our farm tourism sites to be accredited first by the ATI or Agricultural Training Institute, kasi nagstart muna sila as isa lang muna bago pa po ma-accredit ng Department of Tourism, that’s the time na we can receive guests talaga if you are a farm lodge or simply farm site lang, day farm parang ganyan” said Buñi.

According to the officer, the farm tourism let tourists experience first hand farming such as planting and harvesting.

“Aniya, isa sa mga pangunahing layunin ng farm tourism ay upang maranasan at aktuwal na makita ng mga tutungo ritong mga local o foreign tourists ang mga pangunahing gawain o buhay sa bukid, gaya ng pagtatanim at pag-aani ng palay gayundin ang fruit picking depende sa kung anong prutas ang available sa bawat season,” said the Capitol.

“Samantala, isa rin aniya sa kagandahan ng pagsusulong ng farm tourism ay ang layunin nito na matulungan ang mga ordinaryong mga magsasaka dahil maaari silang magkaroon ng hanapbuhay mula sa mga turistang tutungo sa kanilang lugar,” it added.
