The Palawan Provincial Government has started preparing its recovery plan for its tourism industry which has been crippled by the coronavirus disease pandemic.

The Capitol said that trabel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic hurt the province’s tourism sector.

“Dahil sa mga umiiral na travel restrictions kaugnay pa rin ng mga ipinatutupad na mga community quarantine sa buong bansa bunsod ng pandemya ng COVID-19, malaki ang naging epekto nito sa mga pangunahing industriya na nagpapatakbo sa ekonomiya ng bansa, partikular na ang sektor ng turismo na isa sa lubos na naapektuhan,” said the provincial government.

As lockdowns ease, Palawan is now preparing to open its tourism for domestic and local tourists for now.

Provincial Tourism Officer Maribel C. Buñi also shared the steps they will take as part of the recovery plan.

“Titingnan natin ‘yong product development side, ano ‘yong mga produkto na pwede i-cater, kasi for now, we have domestic tourists diba,” Buñi said.

“Ano ‘yong mga produkto na pupuwede nating i-diversify na maaaring i-cater ng ating mga local or domestic tourists, so as long as product development is concern, dapat makapagplano rin tayo” added Buñi.

The official also said that there will be new policies as Palawan embraces the “new normal.”

“Dapat matingnan ‘yong mga polisiya, ‘yong mga policies on carrying capacity, environmental management system, solid waste management at safety, ‘yon ang mga magandang tingnan” said Buñi.
