VP President’s PPE making project is helping change lives for the better
Vice President Leni Robredo was touched to learn that her project to help the widows and orphans of the victims of extrajudicial killings are not only bearing fruit, but making lives more comfortable.
The project involves having them make personal protective equipment.
In a Facebook post, Robredo said she was impressed with the speed and quality of the work of the project’s participants.
And it gave them extra income as well.
The group Samahan ng mga Orphans at Widows said the income they earned from the project allowed them to fix their homes, giving these decent roofs and cement floors.
The members would like to continue sewing PPEs to earn a living, it added.
Robredo said the project is a better way to help the families and communities amid the quarantine, as relief goods were expected to run out.
The job not just helps them earn a living, it gives them dignity as well, she added.
This is the classic example of teaching people to fish to feed them for life!
“Received this touching text message today from the Payatas SOW (Samahan ng mga Orphans at Widows). They are family members of EJK victims who organized themselves. We tapped them to sew PPEs for us and we have been so impressed by the speed and quality of their work.
I wanted to share this with you because, moving forward with our new normal, let us all find creative ways by which we can help communities. Giving relief goods will not be sustainable in the long term. But giving them opportunities to earn income will help them live with dignity.
