Ako Bicol Rep. Co cautions against complacency in COVID-19 fight

It’s not the right time to let the guard down, Ako Bicol Rep. Elizalde Co reminded after Albay has been categorized as a “low risk” area for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

After May 15, community quarantine in Albay will be lifted pursuant to the order of the national government.

Rep. Zaldy Co said that President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision is a welcome development, but he advised fellow Bicolanos to remain vigilant amidst the dangers posed by the lethal virus.

Co, one of the original proponents for the lifting of strict quarantine measures in areas with zero or only one COVID-19 cases, said the President’s decision was an “intelligent move backed by science, data and analytics.”

“Thankfully, we can now restart Albay’s economic engine which has stalled for the past two months. Getting businesses back on their feet is a difficult but rewarding task,” the Ako Bicol solon said.

However, he cautioned against complacency in the fight against COVID-19.

“The virus is still very much out there and continues to pose great danger. While we’re excited to reopen the economy and return to normalcy, we must remember to wear masks, practice social distancing where necessary, and always maintain a healthy lifestyle,” he stressed.

He also noted that that Albay’s classification as a low risk area a good news but he advised Bicolanos to exercise caution as the Region could easily slide back to quarantine if there is a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the area.
