Escudero urges national government to prepare for post-COVID economic scenario
Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero urged the government to begin its post coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) scenario.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier extended the enhanced community quarantine until April 30 from the original April 13 expiration.
“Government should start looking at the post-COVID-19 economic scenario; addressing the onslaught of a possible worldwide/regional recession,” said Escudero.
He also asked the national government to begin to set out plans for an “economic stimulus package or accelerated borrowing/spending plan in order to pump prime the economy.”
Meanwhile, Escudero also issued an executive order reiterating and mandating strict compliance for in-transit and delivery trucks and mandatory 14-day quarantine for all PUMs/PUIs.
“Our PUMs have gone down by 88% and our PUIs have gone down by 81% with zero (0) COVID-19 positive case from the start of the quarantine,” said the governor.
“Issued a directive to all city and municipal mayors to make sure that the amelioration assistance reaches those who need it the most and for the whole amount to reach them,” he added.
