Marinduque Gov. Presbitero Velasco Jr. has beefed up security protocols in the island following the province’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 infection.
In a statement, Velasco revealed that a man from the Municipality of Torrijos was tested positive for the killer disease after arriving in the island on March 12 through a M/V Starhorse.
“We are now tracing the five persons he made contact with,” said Velasco.
The Marinduque governor had called for an emergency meeting earlier to put and plan extra safety measures in the province.
He stressed that the Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19 in the province will implement high security measures for the sake of the safety of the residences of Marinduque.
“Follow the Department of Health (DoH) and the government’s advice to help us get back to normal life soonest. Stay home. Pray hard,” said Velasco.
Velasco appealed to the people of Marinduque to heed the government’s advice to stay home and do self-quarantine amid the first case COVID-19 infection in the island.
