The national government’s program to provide free wifi for all has rolled out in Albay, and Gov. Al Francis Bichara is pretty excited about it.

In a Facebook post, Bichara said Albay was chosen as one of the provinces where the Free Wifi For All project was activated by the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the United Nations Development Programme.

He said the project would contribute to the UN campaign for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

Through the free-wifi, vulnerable and at-risk communities would get to have broad access to information, he explained.

This means women and men from disadvantages communities would get new opportunities for personal and institutional growth, he added.

This free wifi won’t just be for social media; it could lead to empowerment and progress as well!

“FREE WIFI FOR ALL!!!

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) teamed-up with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the nationwide activation of the FREE WiFi FOR ALL, one of which is the Province of Albay held at AFBVille auditorium earlier this morning March 5, 2020.

The DICT-UNDP Free Wi-fi For All Project shall contribute to the on-going campaign of the United Nations for rapid progress on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is expected that through the project, vulnerable and at-risk communities will have broad access to information through free public Wi-Fi. As a result, women and men from disadvantages communities are provided with new opportunities for personal and institutional growth. The enhancement of learning and teaching capacities, strengthening governance engagement, and availing of vast opportunities for economic development are also expected from beneficiaries, serve the remotest, most vulnerable and communities.

This initiative would not have been possible without the leadership support of the DICT and UNDP management.

Thank you and God bless,” Bichara posted.
