Gov. Bichara cancels Magayon Festival this year amid coronavirus outbreak
Albay Governor Al Francis C. Bichara ordered the cancellation of the Magayon Festival this year amid the threat of 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019 n-CoV ARD).
The announcement was made this morning, February 5, 2020, during the meeting with all the Capitol Department Heads at Governor’s Guest House.
Provincial Tourism Officer Dorothy Colle daid that the cancellation of the annual festivities meant to make Bicol region free from coronavirus.
“We need to avoid events that will draw in crowds so that no tourists will come,” Colle was quoted as saying.
The Provincial Government of Albay also advised the public to take precautionary measures and practice proper hygiene to prevent any infections.
“If there is anyone showing symptoms of the virus such as coughing, sneezing, having hard time to breathe and respiratory ailment, they are advised to seek medical doctors and to do self-quarantine,” the provincial government said.
