Camarines Norte Rep. Josie Tallado has continued to champion the rights of the children at the House of Representatives.

Tallado delivered a speech yesterday at the lower House to commemorate the National Children’s Day.

The solon said that November 20 is one of the most important dates in the world as we celebrate the World Children’s Day first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day.

“So November 20, internationally is one of the most important day of the year to celebrate our children and it is for this reason that we commemorate this special day as well in the House of Representative to champion the welfare of our children,” the solon said.

“Different aspects of our society have their own roles in championing children’s right. Our roles as lawmakers is to ensure that we promote and pass laws that will safeguard for their welfare and advance their basic interest,” she added.

Tallado said that includes:

1. Proper care and love by the parents and family;
2. Provision of healthy food, clean clothes and security;
3. Healthy living environment where they can feel safe at home, school or other place;
4. Proper, accessible and excellent education; and
5. Protection against abuse.

“It is beyond cavil that children are the hope of our country. We must nurture them with, love, care and understanding and equip them with proper education for them to be prepared in the challenges ahead,” the solon said.

“The future of our country can be assessed in the way we treat our children for they are our legacy and we owe it to ourselves and our children that we bequeath a lasting and excellent legacy that will propel our country to greater heights,” she added.
