Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Alfredo A. Garbin Jr. joined the fifth episode of “Kapihan sa SM City Legazpi” to discuss his proposed Anti-Sthealthing Law.
The event was organized by the Diocesan Multii-Media Services Inc. and was held last November 8.
Garbin’s House Bill 3957 seeks to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
“According to Representative Garbin, Ako Bicol filed the bill after seeing the need to protect Filipinos by preventing the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases (STD), as well as unwanted pregnancies through legislative measures that would allow prosecution and penalization of violators,” said the partylist.
“Those under the poverty line who don’t have the access to proper sexual information and proper education are the most burdened and victimized by those who use deception to contract desease or cause unwanted pregnancy,” it added.
According to Ako Bicol, prevention and treatment of HIV requires early testing, proper diagnosis and identification of red flags like having high-risk behaviors, unsafe sexual contact and others means of transmission, deterioration of the immune system and application of treatment.
“Ultimately, the society and the youth must instill to themselves self-discipline, family openness and values, proper knowledge, sound judgement and support a law that can help people seek protection from stealthing — such factors all contribute to the overall prevention and penalization of stealthing and the triumph against STDs and unwanted pregnancies,” added the partylist.
Also present during the activity were different student groups from various schools, Albay 1st District Glenda Ong Bongao, Dr. Joane Bonaobra of BRTTH, and Sr. Veronica Centeno.
