Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco lauds signing of Judges-at-large law
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco has lauded the enactment of Judges-at-large Act of 2019.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the Judges-at-large Act last August 30. The law aims to declog the court dockets in the country.
The said law provides for the appointment of 100 regional trial judges at large and 50 municipal trial judges at large.
Under the said law, the Supreme Court can now appoint judges at large to any regional or municipal trial court to help decongest the court dockets.
“The law basically aimed at addresseing the worsening docket load in the judiciary,” said Velasco.
The Marinduque solon was one of the principal authors of the law at the House of Representatives.
Velasco said that he’s happy that his proposal became a law, noting that the speedy resolution of cases will build the trust and confidence of Filipinos in the judicial system.
Velasco, a son of former Supreme Court Justice, said that he knew first hand that courts should be provided with “innovative remedial measures” that will speed up the judicial mill.
