Illustrator Larry Alcala will always be fondly remembered in Albay, says Vice Gov. Grex Lagman

Every year on August 19, Albay will proudly remember its son, illustrator, cartoonist, and national artist Larry Alcala, and Vice Gov. Grex Lagman is happy about this.

In a Facebook post, Lagman said those who grew up reading Alcala’s comic strips and editorial cartoons are surely glad he has finally been recognized as a national artist.

His hometown of Daraga also set aside a day, August 19, to celebrate his life and works, and this will be observed every year, said Lagman.

A comic strip competition will also be held in Alcala’s memory.

For all that Alcala has done, Lagman is grateful.

Let us honor the memory of the great ones!

“Those who grew up reading the comic strips of editorial cartoonist and illustrator Larry Alcala would surely appreciate that he has been awarded as National Artist in 2018. He is also from Daraga, Albay. It’s good that LGU-Daraga has honored its illustrious son by declaring August 19 as “Larry Alcala Day”. The same will be celebrated every year thereafter.

There was also a comic strip competition joined in by promising Daragueño cartoonists in his honor. Congratulations to the winners! And thank you very much, National Artist Larry Alcala! 😊😊😊,” Lagman posted.
