Marinduque Rep. Velasco thanks PDP-Laban for supporting his House speakership bid
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco has expressed this gratitude to the members of the PDP-Laban who backed his bid to become the next House Speaker.
Senator Manny Pacquiao took a break from his boxing training to announce today that the ruling party PDP-Laban is fielding Velasco as the next top leader of the House.
Velasco said that he is “deeply humbled and honored” by the endorsement of the PDP-Laban.
“The trust and confidence of my partymates in my leadership to steer the next Congress and commitment to support us will inspire me to work harder in bringing about meaningful changes and much awaited unity to the bigger Chamber,” Velasco said in a statement.
The Marinduque solon also said that the support granted to him will inspire him to work on the passage of “crucial” legislation to sustain the success of the Duterte administration.
“If elected Speaker of the 18th Congress as representative of the single most dominant party in Congress and the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte, I assure them that I will remain consultative and a listening leader, who welcomes his fellow lawmakers regardless of their political colors and affiliations,” said Velasco.
Velasco is one of the frontrunners as House Speaker together with Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.
