Naga City Mayor John Bongat has expressed his grief after the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France was engulfed by a massive fire.
Bongat shared a throwback photo of his family in the famed church taken in 2015.
“SO SAD TO SEE NOTRE-DAME CATHEDRAL go up in flames last Monday,” the mayor said.
“I, mommy Farah and Jade had the chance to visit this architectural wonder and world pilgrimage site when I was invited to speak at the European UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland back in 2015,” he said.
The Notre-Dame Cathedral housed some of important relics in the Catholic church such as Jesus Christ’s Crown of Thorns.
It also housed the fragment of the True Cross and a holy nail used to crucify Jesus.
“This humongous Catholic shrine was built more than 800 years ago. I grabbed the opportunity to bring my family along for side trips to other nearby destinations, including this one to Paris,” Bongat said.
