Bicol International Airport construction on track for 2020 completion — DOTr


The Department of Transportation announced that the construction of the Bicol International Airport is now 57.44% complete.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade personally inspected yesterday the airport’s construction.

“The airside of the airport comprising of the airstrip, runway, taxiway, apron and perimeter and fence is already 100% complete, while the landside comprising of all the buildings and the site development are currently in the works,” the department said.

The Bicol International Airport is targeted to be finished by July 2020.

The DOTr expects the airport to accommodate 2 million passengers annually with the new and higher capacity facilities and enhanced safety of airport operation.

“Hailed as the ‘Most Scenic Gateway’, BIA is expected to boost Bicol’s tourism arrival and help Albay become an economic powerhouse,” the department said.

Meanwhile, also present during the site inspection were DOTr Usec. for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal, Tourism Asec. Myra Abubakar, DOTr Asec. for Communications Goddes Hope Libiran, and CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration, General Ricardo Banayat.
