Palawan SP member urges Comelec, PPCRV to be active in campaigning against vote buying
A Palawan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member wants the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Palawan and Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) to be more active in disseminating information against vote-buying.
Board Member Roseller Pineda has authored a resolution urging the COMELEC and PPCRV to conduct information campaign against vote buying and ways to prevent it specially now that the May 2019 election is fast approaching.
Pineda said that people who lack knowledge about vote buying are the ones who usually become the victim of the scheme.
“Nakalulungkot dahil di talaga nawawala ang problema sa vote buying, may iba na nagbibigay ng personal assistance, pera, goods at medicines kapalit ng boto,” she said.
“Kaya dapat ay pagtuunan ito ng pansin ng gobyerno katuwang ang iba’t ibang organisasyon tulad ng media at civil society groups.”
The resolution also aims to show that Palawan also follows election laws and not just environmental laws.
“Samantala, base sa Section 264 ng Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines, ang sinumang mapatutunayang nagbebenta o bumibili ng boto ay mahaharap sa 1 hangang 6 na taong pagkakabilanggo at maaaring madiskwalipika ang kandidato na mapapatunayang may sala at mawawalan din ito ng karapatang bumoto at humawak ng anumang pwesto sa gobyerno,” said the province.
