Calapan City barangay captains attend meeting on solid waste management law implementation

Leaders of barangays in Calapan City have gathered recently to attend a meeting regarding the implementation of the solid waste management law.

A total of 62 barangay captains participated in the said meeting initiated by the the office of City Environment and Natural Resources.

City Councilor Rafael Panaliigan, Jr at ABC President Dennis Rojas spearheaded the meeting regarding Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act held at the Panlungsod Session hall last March 4.

City Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Wilfredo G. Landicho, DENR Environmental Management Bureau Baby Labre, Ms Minda Mendoza of DILG among others were also in attendance.

“Layon ng pagpupulong ay upang muling talakayin at bigyan ng solusyon ang ibat-ibang suliraning kinakaharap ng bawat barangay sa Lungsod ng Calapan ukol sa pagpapatupad ng tamang pamamahala ng mga basura sa kani-kanilang barangay na nasasakupan particular na ang pagpapatupad ng nasabing batas, ang Republic Act 9003 o Ecological Solid Waste Management Act,” the city government said.

“Ayon kay City Councilor Rafael Panaligan, Jr, na siyang Committee Chair ng SP sa Environment at nagsilbing Presiding Officer sa nasabing pagpupulong, mahalaga ang madalas magkaroon ng pagpupulong at pagtalakay sa pagitan ng mga Punong barangay at ng Pamahalaang Lungsod lalo na ang mahalagang paksa ukol sa pangangalaga sa kalikasan particular na ang wastong pamamahala ng basura na siyang concern ng lahat ng tao,” it added.

The city said that while several barangays have been complying with the standards set by law, it still needs strict monitoring from the national government.
