Albay Gov. Bichara expresses alarm over traffic accident rate


Bichara has attended the consultative meeting last February 21 regarding the traffic accident rate in Albay.

Present during the said meeting was l Mr. Cedric Daep of Albay APSEMO and PSSUPT. Wilson C. Asueta, Provincial Director of Albay PPO.

“With representatives from the Philippine National Police, Land Transportation Office RO-V, Department of Public Works and Highways, and Traffic Management Group, the members of the council were present to discuss the Proposal of Truck Ban due to the previous involvement of Heavy Trucks to vehicular accidents in the province,” the province said.

Asueta presented the data on the cases of vehicular traffic accidents in the province, which showed 284 incidents in total which includes 12 cases of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, 98 physical injuries, and 181 damage to properties.

It was found out that these accidents are usually caused by human factor.

Albay APSEMO’s Daep proposed the appropriate time of Truck Ban during rush hours, where in situations from Daraga to Camalig, and Legazpi to Sto. Domingo was critical at peak hours.

“Suggested time of rerouting is 6am to 8am, 11am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm, however there will be a special consideration for government trucks,” said the province.
