Yuson father and son of Masbate face raps over guns found at beach

Batuan, Masbate Mayor Charmax Yuson and his father, Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III, face a complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the weapons stash found by authorities in their beach resort.

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Masbate Provincial Field Unit filed the complaint for illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions following a raid of the Yuson’s beach resort in Batuan last Wednesday (Feb. 13).

“Meron po tayong information na natanggap na yung mag-amang Yuson ay meron mga possession na loose firearms at nagma-maintain ng private armed groups,” said CIDG Masbate chief, Chief Insp. Dave Mahilum.

Armed with a search warrant issued by a Manila court, authorities seized from the operation two grenades, two rifles, two shotguns, a .45 caliber pistol, and three .38 caliber revolvers without serial numbers.

Though the Yusons were not present during the operation, authorities also arrested the vice mayor’s security guard, Jeason Clemente, who does not have any permits or licenses to carry firearms but was found armed with one of the shotguns.

Clemente already underwent inquest proceedings at the DOJ, while, the Yusons will undergo preliminary investigation.
