Mayor Bongat visits road accident victims on Valentine’s Day
Naga City Mayor John Bongat spent his Valentine’s Day visiting a mother and her son who were road accident victims.
“ON VALENTINE’S DAY, I and Cap Michael Oliva visited Kristeel Pelo and her son John Michael, 12, and brought them crutches as the city’s valentine’s gift,” the mayor said.
According to Bongat, Kristeel’s left leg and John Michael’s right leg were both amputated due to the accident.
The mayor shared that on January 22, “while standing on the sidewalk of the highway at Concepcion Grande, a speeding Toyota Vios hit them and crushed their legs which were literally severed from their bodies due to impact.”
The local chief executive, meanwhile, lauded the strength of the family amid the challenge that they are facing.
“I really admire them (and their Daddy Rainer) for being strong enough to overcome the anxiety that befell them and for still loving and valuing their life even as amputees, for a freak cause,” he said.
“In spite of this physically and emotionally devastating and traumatic experience, they are up, alive and kicking, and happy to be alive. Happy Valentine’s Day!,” Bongat said.
