Palawan Capitol’s social welfare unit, POPCOM hold Teen Pregnancy Symposium in Roxas, Aborlan towns
The Commission on Population (POPCOM) and the Palawan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) have teamed up to hold a Teen Pregnancy Symposium in Roxas and Aborlan towns.
The said symposium was also in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO) ng Roxas as well as the Department of Education.
The province said that over 300 students from Roxas Comprehensive National High School joined the symposium while around 1,000 college students in Aborlan participated in the said event.
“Bukod sa usapin sa teenage pregnancy o ang maagang pagbubuntis ng mga kabataan na wala pa sa hustong gulang ay tinalakay rin ang iba pang usaping may kinalaman sa kalusugan ng mga kabataan,” the province said.
Mark Laurence Guilles, Planning Officer III mula sa POPCOM- Mimaropa, said that the activity is under the Adolescent Health.
“Basically gusto natin i-increase ‘yong awareness ng ating mga kabataan on how to avoid sexual activities, dahil hindi pa talaga sila dapat nakikipagtalik, second, to avoid teenage pregnancy and of course to avoid acquiring STI’s (sexually transmitted infections) especially HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome,” Guilles said.
The symposium also tackled the HIV and AIDS issues led by Dennis Abacial from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
“Ang Palawan po ay number 1 sa buong rehiyon ng MIMAROPA na mataas ang kaso ng HIV and AIDS so kaya po kami nandito upang ibahagi ang mga kaalaman patungkol dito lalo na po sa mga kabataan tulad ninyo” said Abacial.
Meanwhile, the province said that the POPCOM and the PSWDO will continue to hold similar symposium in various Palawan local government units.
