Show of force! 2,232 strong Bicolano barangay captains attend summit on good governance


More than 2,000 barangay captains in Bicol have attended yesterday the summit on good governance initiated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

A 2,232 strong village chiefs gathered at the Albay Astrodrome in Legazpi City to attend the said summit.

“The event aims to discuss national and local issues affecting barangay governance with case presentations and discussions highlighting the vital roles of barangay officials in combating local problems such as illegal drugs, criminality, corruption and violent extremism,” said the provincial government.

“The event also delved on the most pressing issue about the barangays active roles in advancing positive change once the country decides to move to federalism,” it added.

Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara was represented by Provincial Administrator Engr. Vida Maria Corazon C. Prollamante.

Prollamante welcomed the guests and participants and urged village chiefs “to become partners of the government in promoting peace and development starting from their area of responsibility.”

Also in attendance during the summit were top officials of the DILG that include Bicol Regional Director Atty. Anthony C. Nuyda, Asec. For External and Legislative Affairs Asec.
