Ako Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin vowed to continue to fight for the institutionalization of the Universal Social Pension for senior citizens.
Garbin joined today with the mass action led by the Coalition of Services of the Elderly, Inc. (COSE) to call for the passage of the Universal Social Pension bill.
“Nakiisa si Cong. Alfredo A. Garbin, Jr. sa malawakang mobilisasyon na pinangunahan ng Coalition of Services of the Elderly, Inc. (COSE) na nangangampanya upang maging isa nang ganap na batas ang isinusulong ng Ako Bicol Party List na Universal Social Pension na magbibigay saating mga senior citizens ng karampatang seguridad at dignidad sa pamamagitan ng karagdagang benepisyo mula sa pamahalaan,” the partylist said.
Garbin said that the efforts of the coalition will not go to waste as he committed to fight for the passage of the bill.
“Sisiguraduhin kong hindi masasayang ang pagod at panahon na inilaan natin para lamang maisulong ito sa kamara, ipinapangako kong tatapusin natin ang labang ito nang matagumpay,” Garbin was quoted as saying.
Ako Bicol’s version of the measure, House Bill 5038, is still pending in Congress.
“Sa naturang bersyon ng kamara, tatanggap ng P1000 ang bawat senior citizen na walang kasalukuyang natatanggap na pensyon, o kung mayroon man na mula sa GSIS, SSS, o PGMC ay di ito tataas sa P3,500,” the partylist said.
“Assuring our Lolo’s and Lola’s of Ako Bicol full support on Increasing the Monthly Social Pension of Senior Citizens and expanding the coverage thereof from P500 to P1,000 under Ako Bicol House Bill 5038,” said Garbin.
