Marinduque Rep. Velasco dedicates bicam-approved energy efficiency bill to late Rep. Batocabe
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco has dedicated the bicameral conference-approved Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Bill to the slain Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
Batocabe was one of the solons who pushed for the institutionalization of a energy-efficiency and conservation policy in the country.
Velasco, chairman of the House energy committee, spearheaded the bicam recently together with his Senate counterpart Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
“This measure which has been pending for 30 years will lay down the foundation for a comprehensive Energy-efficiency and conservation policy that would mandate the efficient and judicious use of energy resources, and promote the development and utilization of both new and alternative sources of energy-efficient technologies and systems,” Velasco said.
“As of date, we are the only country in the Asean region that does not have a said EEC law,” he added.
Velasco expressed gratitude to all the people who worked hard in crafting the measure.
“Cheers to everyone who has been instrumental in the passage of this Bill especially to our late colleague, Honorable RODEL BATOCABE,” Velasco said.
Rep. Batocabe and his aide SPO2 Orlando Diaz were killed last December 22 while attending a gift-giving event in Daraga, Albay.
Batocabe was serving his last term as congressman. He was vying for a mayoral seat in Daraga.
The PNP earlier tagged incumbent Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo as the mastermind behind Batocabe’s killing.
