DSWD to provide shelter assistance to Usman-hit families in Bicol, MIMAROPA, other areas


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it will provide Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) to families whose houses were partially and totally damaged during the onslaught of Tropical Depression Usman.

DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Glenda Relova said that once the weather condition returns to normal, they will coordinate with the local government to help the families.

“Kapag maayos na ang mga lugar na binaha ay bababa ang ating mga kawani sa DSWD upang magsagawa ng komprehensibong assessment sa mga damages na nakuha ng mga kabahayan dahil sa bagyo upang malaman kung ito ay partially o totally damaged at upang mabigyan sila ng emergency shelter assistance ng DSWD,” Asec. Relova said.

The department eyes to help families in Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, as well as Calabarzon and Eastern Visayas.

The department reported that there are already 11,312 reported damaged houses in Regions CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, and VIII which will be assessed in coordination with their respective local government units.

The department said that it continues to bring food and non-food items to affected LGUs. They also conduct psychosocial interventions in evacuation centers.
